Lot of three issues: Volume IX New Series, Numbers 10, & 12, October 1 & December 1, 1848 & Volume X New Series, No. 1, January 1, 1849. First editions. Small folios (12.25" x 9.5"), 4 pages each, illustrated. Original newspapers, single sheets folded once vertically. Removed from a bound volume.

Two issues lightly toned & foxed, with moderate edge wear, otherwise Very Good. One issue with more substantial edge wear & creasing including a two inch tear without loss along the fold (now with small archival tissue reinforcement in the gutter between pages two & three), soiled & foxed, otherwise Good & still quite useful.

As characterized in a 1850 article published in the Milwaukee Sentinel, the Youth's Temperance Advocate is "a lively, ably conducted sheet, filled with facts, calculated to interest not only the youthful mind, but the man mature, and in this way, do more to arouse the dormant energies of the fathers and mothers, and give a new and permanent impetus to the Temperance reform than can be done in any other way."
