At one time the WFTU was the largest international organization of unions on the planet. Historically the WFTU was dominated by the pro-Moscow Communist Party dominated unions around the world. At the end of WWII the US and Western allied leaders moved to split it to set up an anti-communist formation known as the World Federation of Free Trade Unions.
