Bound in publisher's original hardcover quarter Holland-backed blue paper boards, with blue linen spine and paper title label. One of 315 (of which 300 were for sale) copies. Printed on fine, hand-made, W M and floral watermarked paper. Uncut, deckled edges. Colophon. [iii], 106, [ii], 100, [iii] pp. Part of a William Morris series comprising eight large quarto books printed at the Chiswick Press with the Golden type designed by Morris for his Kelmscott Press, 1901–1902. First printed in 1888. Chapter headings in red and some notes in red, with shoulder notes in black. Finished on the first day of May, 1902. Spare label tipped in. Bookplate of Theodora Duncan. Label chipped at bottom with the loss two letters. The paper-covered boards free from foxing, scuffs, or marks excepting some corners somewhat bumped. No edge toning but dust soiling to top edge of pages. Spine lightly and uniformly faded from blue to brown-grey, showing only slight wear at the head and foot. Square and solidly bound. Completely free from the usual spotting and foxing of a book this age. The very slightest offsetting to endpapers, with internal pages pristine, clean, white, and crisp. Previous owner, Theodora Duncan, penned her name on a handsome bookplate to front pastedown. All in all, the book is attractive and very well-preserved. A very handsome copy, indeed. Unopened. Condition overall: Very Good.
