Sobre este item

London: William Pickering, 1834. A new edition by Basil Montagu. Complete in 16 volumes. 8vo. Various paginations. Engraved frontispiece and engraved leaf of script. Indices. Finely bound by F. Bedford in full calf with gilt ruling & dentelles; red and green leather gilt lettered titles labels to spines; elaborate gilt decoration to spines; marbled endpapers. Engraved armorial bookplate for Frederick Walter Stephenson in each voume. Subscription Copy No. 457 slip tipped in to Volume I. Light, general wear; rear board of Volume I professionally re-attached; front joints starting to split in Volumes II, V, light foxing to front and rear blank pages in most volumes; else a near fine set. This new edition by Basil Montagu, Esq. is considered to be the definitive and most desirable edition of Bacon's works. Bacon has been called the father of empiricism. He led the advancement of both natural philosophy and the scientific method and his works remained influential even in the late stages of the Scientific Revolution. The Baconian theory of Shakespearean authorship holds that he wrote the plays which were publicly attributed to William Shakespeare.
