The British sent a huge force across the Atlantic and took New York City. The small band of soldiers, under General George Washington, retreated into New Jersey, where they spent the cold days of winter preparing their counterattack at the Battle of Princeton. With 66 black & white illustrations, 6 maps, end notes and index. --- In tan cloth-covered boards with cover and spine titling in gilt. Jacket with W. Trego color painting of Washington and his troops at Valley Forge to front cover. --- A Good-only copy, with rippled leaves due to exposure to dampness, a partial split at mid-book, prior owner's signature to front free endpaper; otherwise intact. Dust jacket with sunned spine, chafing to edges and some rubbing, else intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (10), 435 pages .
