Schmitz was the Honorary Curator of the Herbarium and lecturer in botany at Pius XII University College at Roma, Lesotho.This was the first pictorial guide to Lesotho flora, and Schmitz worked with Chief Theko Maama to incorporate Sesotho plant names and their medicinal uses.
