Sobre este item

New York: The Viking Press. Good with no dust jacket. 1942. First Edition. Hardcover. Viii, 184 pp. Octavo. Chrome yellow and grey strips on the front cover, yellow and grey on the spine, solid yellow on the rear covers. Corners a little rubbed, especially the front bottom, small library numbers on the spine. Interior end papers have stamp from Ridgewood, NJ library (the town Hawes was from) , and marks from removed pocket at the rear. The first few preliminary leaves have a small bump at the fore-edge, otherwise clean and unmarked. A quite scarce book by one of the most interesting American women of the 20th century. Hawes was a designer yes -- an an opinionated one, who thought that women should have comfortable, affordable, well-made but stylish clothes -- but she was also a social critic, who thought long and hard of the role of art in the world and the responsibilities artists and craftspeople have to make the world a better place. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 184 pages .
