This book is the remarkable true story of white European slaves in eighteenth-century Algiers, Tunis, and Morocco. The book is based on the life of Thomas Pellow, who in 1716 was captured by Barbary corsairs when his ship was captured at sea. He and his shipmates were taken to Morocco where Pellow was selected as personal slave to the sultan of Morocco and remained so for the next 23 years. His story along with unpublished letters an manuscripts written by slaves makes up this story of a disturbing and long-forgotten chapter of history. A clean very presentable copy
