Abbott was a cowboy in the great days of the 1870's and 1880's. He came up the trail to Montana from Texas with the long-horned herds which were to stock the northern ranges; he punched cows in Montana when there wasn't a fence in the territory; and he married a daughter of Granville Stuart, the famous early-day stockman and Montana pioneer. For more than fifty years he was known to cowmen from Texas to Alberta as "Teddy Blue." A leading book on the range cattle industry of which Six Score 1 says, "This is perhaps the most straight forward account of cowboy life. Teddy Blue Abbott was raised in Nebraska; after leaving home his first job as a cowboy was with the notorious Olive outfit. He had a number of other jobs before coming up the trail to Montana in 1883, where he remained." Eventually he married one of Granville Stuart's daughters and settled down. Fine bright copy in a bright, fresh dust jacket with minor wear to spine ends, a small closed tear to top edge of front cover and a small closed tear to bottom edge of front cover. An exceptional copy and getting scarce in collector's condition.
