New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good- in Very Good- dust jacket. 1971. Hardcover. A 1971 reprint edition of a work first published in 1935 by Bobbs-Merrill. A casual 1863 discovery of gold in a creek at present-day Butte, Montana led to a gold and silver mining frenzy there, and eventually the discovery of much richer lodes of copper ore in the region. This work tells of the tumultuous events in the area: ". . .more than one hundred murders, more than a score of hangings without the process of law, more than two billion dollars in material wealth. . .battles of giants in the depths of the earth and in the capital of the nation. . ." With several scattered black & white photos. --- In olive green and white linen-finish paper-covered boards with cover & spine titling in brown; brown topstain. Volume wrapped in copper-toned jacket with crown image to front panel. --- With prior owner's embossed circular stamp to title page, mostly removed bookplate to front paste-down, else a sound, tightly-bound copy. Price-clipped dust jacket with chafing to spine ends and a little rubbing and scratching, otherwise bright, intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; ix, (9), 18-314 pages .
