Text volumes bound without half-titles in contemporary polished calf, double gilt fillets on the sides, narrow floral roll on dentelles, marbled edges, Portrait and engraved title with repair at lower corner;Small (3 mm) hole in margin..Fine condition. Atlas bound untrimmed in period style, half calf with marbled boards, flat spine gilt in compartments, edges lightly rubbed, very minor marginal spotting. "The best English edition and the first to contain the full text of the first French edition" (Forbes). "This edition by Robinson is usually considered to be the best one in English, and is now an extremely rare work," Hill. La Pérouse visited Alta California, the Aleutian Islands, Australia Easter Island, Formosa,Hawaii, Macao, Samoa and Tonga and carried out important geographical and scientific research.
