The author was a Church of the Brethren missionary to Japan from 1922-27, later serving in U.S. Army Intelligence during the Second World War. In this work he analyzes the sources and aims of Japanese nationalism and argues that, in the newly-dawned Atomic Age, lasting post-war peace can only be achieved through spreading the gospel of Christianity.
