Preistley moved with his wife and his entire household into a rented house at Daytona Beach. Intriguied by the idea of his favourite orchestra's cultivated brass and percussion competing with Daytona's torrid honky-tonk, he had decided to record for posterity the second visit of the London Symphony to the Florida International Music Festival. During the month-long engagement he attended every concert given by the L.S.O., mixed with the musicians and their hosts, and took in the Daytona scene with customary acuity. There is much to treasure in this book, especially for those whose enjoyment of classical music does not wait upon the whim of a critic.
