The Constitution (a) General Policy: a Restrictive Definition, etc., (to be continued) by Willard Hurst, pages 395-444, footnotes, (3) Volume 58, Number 6 [numbers in red], Treason in the United States – Under the Constitution (a) General Policy, etc., by Willard Hurst, 1945, pages 806-853, footnotes…bound in following the issues are 4 letters in response to a Florida resident who had written requesting information on the Kawakita trial for treason – (a) from James L. Hupp, Dept. of Archives and History, State of West Virginia, Charleston, October 8, 1967, (b) 2 letters from James A. Haley, Congressman, 7th District, Florida, January 26, 1968, with attached 2-page typed report from Julia L. Sayles, Legislative Attorney, Library of Congress, referring to the Hurst articles and noting "our records indicate that Kawakita was born in the United States…traveled to Japan sometime prior to World War II [and was working there in a munitions factory where] the record indicates, he brutally beat American prisoners of war [hence, the basis for his trail for treason after the War], and Oct. 5, 1967, (c) from James T. McNally, Deputy Attorney General, California Department of Justice, on the legal case against "Tomoya Kawakita" and appeals, Oct. 5,1967; NOTES: JAMES WILLARD HURST, 1910-1997, widely credited as the founder of the modern field of American legal history. Educated at the Harvard Law School, from which he graduated in 1935, Hurst was a research assistant to Professor Felix Frankfurter, and later a law clerk to Justice Louis Brandeis (wikipedia); TOMOYA KAWAKITA, 1921-1993 (est.), convicted of treason and sentenced with execution…sentence was reduced to life imprisonment by president Eisenhower, with sentence commuted by Kennedy's attorney general on the condition that Kawakita be deported to Japan and never return to the U.
