First English edition complete with one folding map, A Map of the Coast of East Florida, from the River St. John, Southward, to Near Cape Canaveral, as well as seven engraved botanical and zoological plates (one folding) and a frontispiece portrait of the chief of the Seminoles. Published the year after the scarce American first edition printed by James and Johnson. Handsomely rebound in full dark burnt orange morocco with five raised bands and red morocco labels to spine. Ornamental gilt particulars to covers. New marbled endpapers and fly leaves. Some minor staining affecting rear pages, including plate 7, but otherwise a nice clean copy with no previous owners' names or other defacements.
