Sobre este item
London: G. Routledge & Co.; Simms and M'Intyre, 1855. First edition. Leather. Good. 6.5" by 4" . Phiz. A group of five uniform volumes of William Carleton's series of sketches of rural Irishmen, comprising the scarce first edition of the story of 'The Tithe Proctor.' A series of sketches on the stereotypical nineteenth century Irishman, both humorous and melancholic. Here is a later impression of this work, comprising seventeen tales, of which vol. II is a first edition of The Tithe Proctor. Written by William Carledon, prolific writer known for his vivid descriptions of the life of the rural Irish. Illustrated by Phiz with frontispiece and additional illustrated title page to each volume in the series, excluding 'The Tithe Proctor.' In uniform half calf bindings over marbled boards, with new endpapers. Externally sound with some shelf wear, chipping to the head of the spine, minor loss to the head of the spine of vol. I, minor rubbing to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to the occasional leaf, although pages appear generally very clean throughout. Illustrated with frontispiece and additional illustrated title page to each volume except to 'The Tithe Proctor,' as called for it being of a different edition. Good
