This Limited First Edition copy (number 80 of 450 copies) of Das Tonchen (A Fun Story) by Hugo Hartung, Illustrated with Woodcut Engravings by Rob Stahle, was published in 1985 by Ernst-Engel-Presse Walter Stahle of Stuttgart and Meersburg. The book, which measures approximately 7 x 6 ½ inches, contains 42 pages (including end papers) plus a single separate sheet containing a recipe for Nonnenfurzchen. All the book's text is in German. There are 11 woodcut engravings, 10 of which are signed by the artist Rob Stahle, attached to the pages. The signatures of both the artist, Rob Stahle, and the publisher, Walter Stahle, appear on the colophon page. The book is hard bound in marbled paper-covered boards with a leather title label on the spine.
This copy of the book is in like-new condition.

Hugo Hartung (born September 17, 1902 in Netzschkau/ Vogtland – died May 2, 1972 in Munich) was a German writer. He also wrote under the pseudonym N. Dymion. From 1922 Hugo Hartung studied theater, art and literary history in Leipzig, Vienna and Munich. In 1928 he was appointed Dr. Ing. phil. PhD. He then worked as an actor at the Landesbühne in Munich. From 1931 Hartung was a freelance writer and he wrote radio plays for the Bavarian Radio. In 1936 he went to Oldenburg as chief dramaturge, after he had been banned from writing. From 1940 he took up the same activity in Wroclaw. In 1945 he had to participate in the battles for the city. After the Second World War Hartung lived until 1947 in Neustadt on the Orla (Thuringia), then until 1950 in Potsdam and then in West Berlin. In 1960 he came to Munich and devoted himself increasingly to writing. His novels have been translated many times and some filmed. [Wikipedia]
