[8], v-xxiii, [2], 2-252 pp. Red cloth with a border in blind on each board, gilt lettering and the publisher's device in gilt on the spine. Navy blue coated endpapers and pastedowns. Authorized translation into English by F.L. Pogson. Part of the Library of Philosophy edited by J.H. Muirhead. Bergson's first major work (his doctoral thesis), important to the history of continental philosophy. The front hinge cracked and the boards warped. A 1911 name on the verso of the free front endpaper.
