HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a VERY COLLECTIBLE, HARD TO FIND book: THURSDAY'S CHILD. NOEL STREATFEILD wrote a number of children's books, including THE CIRCUS IS COMING, for which she won the third annual Carnegie Medal. PEGGY FORTNUM has illustrated nearly 80 books (she was 96 as of 2015), including the world famous creation, "PADDINGTON BEAR." The book is about a foundling named 'Margaret Thursday.' "I'm not properly an orphan. I was found on a Thursday on the church steps, with three of everything, all of the very best quality." Margaret is determined to make her way in the world and become famous. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION STATED, 5 5/8" x 8 3/8", with 275 pages, and a school created dust jacket out of manilla paper. The novel was adapted for television as a six-part BBC series broadcast 1972–1973.This is a former library book, with expected markings of same on end papers front and back as well as the spine. Overall condition is Good Plus. Pages = Good Plus: minor staining on couple of interior pages, creasing to scattered corners, library markings, else tight, sharp, clear, with no additional marks. Cover (green cloth boards, with white framing of illustration of "Margaret Thursday" and particulars in white and black) = Good Plus: library markings, staining to top edge of front and back, rubbing to edges and corners, else square, relatively tight, clear. School-created jacket has a child's colored drawing, and the title carefully written in long hand (by librarian?). Jacket is in Good Plus condition.
