Sobre este item
1910. [Theodore Roosevelt] ALS from Reverand Caleb C. Haskell to Douglas Robinson, Theodore Roosevelt's Brother-In-Law, 1910
Lined off-white leaf measuring 5 x 8 inches with portion missing at top but no loss of content. Two previous folds. Good Condition.
Note written from a long-time pastor of Crawford County Pennsylvania, C.C. Haskell to Douglas Robinson, who was married to Theodore Roosevelt's sister Corinne. It reads, "Mr. Robinson: If Mr. Roosevelt will run for President get him to run. I will do what I can for either him or you, but now he will outrun you and you come on afterwards. I can get some votes for either of you in Chautauqua Co NY by writing. (I used to live there) but I can get more votes for him than for you. Success to both of you. I believe you are two honest men and as a good citizen I want to see such men advanced. C.C. Haskell"
Douglas Robinson was a wealthy real estate broker in New York City, but we find no reference to his involvement in politics which leaves us a little puzzled as to the content of the letter. Nonetheless, the letter reflects the sentiments of many Americans who wished for Theodore Roosevelt to run for a third term of office, which he did as a candidate of the Bull Moose Party, losing to Woodrow Wilson.
A neat little item of Americana.
