Sobre este item

[San Francisco], 1976. 22 x 13 7/8"; theater broadside; modest shelfwear with a couple of short closed tears.~~Two main characters: a depressed actor (Jimmy) and a cat burglar (Vito). After a rocky start (Jimmy beats up Vito) the two find themselves attracted sexually, and ultimately run away together. The play, adopted from Kirkwood's novel of the same name, ran for only 16 performances on Broadway in 1976. The following year Kirkwood won a Tony Award for A Chorus Line and in his acceptance speech said "As A Chorus Line was previewing at the Newman Theater, I had a little diddy open on Broadway about a month before called P.S. Your Cat Is Dead. It was greeted by some of the critics as if I'd dramatized the Black Plague. It's been rewritten. It's got a whole new life on the coast, so it's alive and well."~~This poster is from the play's "whole new life on the coast" -- the West Coast premier at the Montgomery Playhouse in San Francisco. It seems that West Coast run was in a time and a place -- San Francisco, the year before Harvey Milk was elected city supervisor -- where the culture was accepting of the gay themes of Kirkwood's play.~~.
