Cloth lightly rubbed, offsetting to endsheets. A late Victorian-era science fiction novel, written by W. H. Hudson and published anonymously. Scarce.

Macmillan and Co. London. 1891. FIRST THOMSON EDITION, Large paper issue. One of only 300 copies issued. Large 8vo. (10.5 x 7.4 inches). Illustrated throughout with 101 fine line drawings by Thomson. Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of bath in early twentieth century binding of full plum morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative line and floral design to both boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Mottled coloured endpapers. Turn ins with double ruled lines and floral design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owner bookplates on the front paste down endpaper. A little fading to the spine but overall a very near fine copy.

Davy Crockett has long been one of the most iconic American folk heroes. While his legend has grown immensely since his military and political adventures, he did make an impact on the shape of the United States in the 19th-century.
In 1834, prior to the Texas Revolution, Crockett began writing his autobiography, now known as 'Narrative of the Life of David Crockett'. This work provides a full and complete discourse of his journey through Tennessee all the way to Texas into San Antonio. It also gives insight to the military and political engagements of Crockett but focuses heavily on his wars with Native Americans and Mexicans, particularly the Creek War, Texas War, and the Battle of the Alamo.

IV with some light chipping to spine ends); slipcase holding all four books. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with vol. I and III lettered in roman numerals and 2 and 4 in Arabic numerals on the spines. 4 volumes, 8vo. 1p. publisher's advertisements at the end of vol. I. (A few minor spots.) Containing 21,000 lines of blank verse, The Ring and the Book is Browning's psychological epic, is the most extensive use of the dramatic monologue. Scarce thus.

Portrait frontispiece engraving of the author after Rowse's crayon sketch, with tissue guard. Small nick and some fraying at the crown of the spine, faint old spot and tide mark at top edge near the gutter (faintly beginning at p. 207, then to end); still, a very good, bright, tight copy. First edition of Thoreau's third book, published posthumously and equipped with a preliminary 33 page biographical sketch by Ralph Waldo Emerson. BAL records the edition consisted of 1558 copies. BORST A3.1.a. BAL 5236 and 20111.

"A Personal Narrative of Life at Sea." 1840 1st Edition, 2nd Issue (the letter "i" in the word "in" within the top line on the copyright page is lacking the dot, and with broken letter "i" within the running title at the top of page 9); Harper & Brothers ("Harpers' Family Library, No. CVI); New York.Condition:Light soiling and foxing to covers and spine; nearly the entire length of the left edge of the spine is separated from the back cover; sharp corners. Tight binding. No cracks. No loose pages. Overall the pages are in very good condition - mostly clean and white with occasional light foxing to some random pages; heavier foxing to the front and rear end papers. The front end papers have some pencil writing and a previous owner's bookplate. Overall a nice copy - would be very good if not for the tear along the left edge of the spine.

Bound in contemporary or early dark green cloth, smooth spine, lettered in gilt between gilt double fillets, glazed yellow endleaves, sprinkled edges. The first separate edition of "Sense and Sensibility" to be published after the expiration of the copyright in 1839. With the half-title. Small chip to blank head of title-page and first page of text. A fine copy. Ink signature of Alice Vernon Harcourt (1845-1919) on front endleaf and book label of John Jordan (no.22). Scarce.

A tight, square copy of this Thoreau classic, uncommon in such lovely condition. Contains his important essay "Civil Disobedience", (originally published in 1849 as "Resistance to Civil Government" ), which has served as a call to action and inspired generations ever since. . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
