London: John Camden Hotten, 1864. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Illustrated with 5 hand-colored plates by Thackeray signed with his signature 'spectacles' in the lower right hand corners. Contemporary binding of half brown morocco, spine in six compartments, gilt; marbled paper boards and edges, top edge gilt. The binding is lightly worn and rubbed at the edges and hinges else is in very good condition with fine text and illustrations. The binding is unsigned.
Church Catalogue, No. 727. Slater, Early Editions, p. 332. Shephard, Thackeray Bibliography, p. 10. Many listings suggest that this volume was printed in 1874, not 1864, but the references agree on the 1864 date.
