Sobre este item
Philadelphia: Budd and Bartram for Thomas Dobson, 1800. First American edition. Leather_bound. Good. Two volumes, first American editions. 12mo. in original full tree calf, spine lined in gilt and with red leather, gilt lettered spine labels. 216 and 227 pp. Bindings are well worn at the spines as well as along the edges and tips. Front board of Vol. I loose but still attached. Offsetting to the edges of the endpapers. Interiors and clean and mostly bright. A keystone early proto-feminist title (More was a contemporary of Mary Wollstonecraft), with the goal of redefinition of women's cultural virtue, rejecting the then-traditional view that a woman must achieve physical beauty and typical accomplishments with the aim of attracting a man into marriage.
