New York: I. Riley and Co, 1807. Third edition. Leather_bound. Good. Third American Edition stated. 12mo. in oriignal full calf, well worn and with a peeled spot front board. Spine lable lettered in gilt. 334 pp. Frontis engraving "By J___s, it is the only bit of fun I have hadsince I left Ireland" showing an Irish gentleman armed with a club defending himself against a gang of roughs similarly armed (the related story appears on p. 121). Folding chart of a "Synoptical View of the State of the Weather at Dublin, in the Year 1804" at page 102. Scattered foxing and some staining to the text. Sir John Carr (1772-1832) was an English barrister but is more popularly known as a travel writer. His jouney's around Europe, the accounts of which were known for their light style, inclded France (his first book in 1803), the Baltic including Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Prussia and Germany; Ireland, Holland, Scotland, and Spain and the Baleric Isles. All were first published bewteen 1803 and 1809. Carr was knighted by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland after the publication of this book.
