Sobre este item

(Canadian Edition on dust jacket flap) . This novel begins in an Irish village where Esther as a young girl is kept alive, but only alive, by her parents after she became blind, deaf and dumb as the result of an accident. Here she is found by an American tourist, a lady of no great wealth but one who takes pity on her appalling condition and determines to take Esther to America where she might possibly be cured by modern medicine. The doctor's do not effect the expected cure. What began as a purely charitable project now takes another turn as public sympathy grows for Esther through appearances at organised meetings, etc by her benefactor. More and more monies go to the feathering of her benefactor's nest.... The story portrays the infinite gullibility of humanity and the men and women who exploit this situation. Price intact dust jacket. A clean bright book by the author of The Cruel Sea.. Source of 1957 film starring Joan Crawford, Rossano Brazzi and Heather Sears.
