Sobre este item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons. The second published work by Davis, a prominent popular Ameerican novelist and journalist of the late 19th, early 20th century whose writing is credited with aiding Teddy Roosevelt's political career. This is a collection of seven short stories with illustrations by Charles Dana Gibson. First edition, early but not first printing (1911). About 5 x 7 1/4 inches, 204 pages, not including six b&w illustrations and four pages of publisher's ads. Tan cloth-covered boards with front cover showing a graphic design of balls, bats and tennis racquets circling title in gold with author's name in gold at bottom of cover above "1891." Boards and spine somewhat age-darkened and showing wear at spine ends. Text edges soiled and lightly foxed. Front end page contains a "property of" notice and previous owner's signature, o/w except for occasional stains, text is clean, complete and unmarked, hinges intact and binding firm. This copy was probably in a school library, received good care and was read by relatively few students. Overall, condition is Very Good, definitely collectable. It's interesting to note that Davis, who covered the Spanish-American War, the Boer War and World War I as a war correspondent was also considered a fashion-maker, pioneering the "clean-shaven" look for men. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1911.
