Sobre este item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1920. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1920. First American edition. Octavo, 243 pp. Gray/green cloth, gilt spine lettering. Spine lettering quite faded, a bit of rust offset from an old paper clip at front few pages. Some dustiness, soiling, a few pencil notations by previous owner in text; Good Plus, and still well bound. Some on-topic ephemera laid-in by previous owner. McCabe's history of spiritualism - dated by him as a phenomenon born in 1848 (despite the title), if defined as an organized non-religious movement to communicate with the spirits of the deceased - is now quite scarce. A good deal of specificity regarding the components of the movement is included, including the Swedenborgians, Arthur Conan Doyle, Mesmer, Angelique Cottin, A.J. Davis, Lyon, John D. Fox, The Auburn Apostles, Judge Edmonds, Katie King, Professor Hare, The Recantation Movement, Free Love (an early version), John Murray Spear, The Spencer Colony, The Davenports, Mrs. Hayden, David Duguid, Home, The London Dialectical Society, Professor Sir W. Crookes, Florrie Cook, Miss Showers, Stainton Moses, Slade and Zollner, Eglinton, The Theosophical Society, Mrs. Piper, Eusapia Palladino, and quite a large number of other entries. L53n
