A Modern Library reprint edition of the Norman Douglas novel, which is populated with loads of eccentric characters on a mythical Mediterranean island and has been much-admired since first published 1917. Includes an introduction by the author dated 1924. --- In Toledano spine 7 / blue balloon cloth / limp boards / gilt cover torchbearer / gilt spine titling with interconnected "ML" device / blue topstain / orange Kent endpapers / volume lacks the dust jacket. Likely published c.1931-39 (though 1925 date appears in book). ML #5.3. --- With 5 large rusty soiled spots to front cover, prior owners' signatures to front free endpaper and mild dulling to spine gilding, else a sound, otherwise unmarked copy.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; vii, (3), 11-447 pages .
