Sobre este item

New York: Lorenz & Ellen Gude, 1964 Stapled in stiffer card covers, cover by Joe Brainard. Unpaginated, this is one of the 300 limited 1st edn. The colophon and stiff paper rear cove are present. This is an association copy being signed by Berrigan to title page & dedicated as it is to Simon Pettet who was a close friend. There exists a postcard by Berrigan with a photograph of Pettet & Anselm Hollo and Berrigan's drawings and text. I can not publish the citation here but will respond to a request. Externally tanned, covers dog-eared with a small area of loss to lower edge of the front cover. Coffee (?) stained to lower half inch of cover and following 3pp. Signed by former owner to top of 3rd page. Very scarce at best but with the final blank and colophon present this is doubly so. Ask for a scan to assess condition. full provenance available on request.

Sinopse

Originally published in 1964, The Sonnets by Ted Berrigan is considered by many to be his most important and influential book. This new annotated edition, with an introduction by Alice Notley, includes seven previously uncollected works. Like Shakespeare's sonnets, Berrigan's poems involve friendship and love triangles, but while the former happen chronologically, Berrigan's happen in the moment, with the story buried beneath a surface of names, repetitions, and fragmented experience. Reflecting the new American sensibilities of the 1960's as well as timeless poetic themes, The Sonnets is both eclectic and classical — the poems are monumental riddles worth contemplating.
