Paris: Henry Babou and Jack Kahane, 1929. Half cloth over pattern paper boards, with titles on spine. Edges worn, corners bumpes, and cloth a bit dust soiled; scattered foxing throughout, but to bad, else a Good copy.. 8vo. pp. [viii]+217. Preface by Edward Garnett. This novel, originally published at London in early 1929 by Jonathan Cape, was suppressed by legal action, ostensibly because of the use of expressions like 'bloody', 'balls' and 'poor little bugger'. (Speaking of expressions, the phrase a 'Sleeveless Errand' is synonymous with a Fool's Errand; according to the O.E.D., 'sleeveless errand was very common c1580-1700). The present edition was published at Paris from the Cape plates. Two years after this book was published, having acquired a taste for publishing, Jack Kahane founded the Obelisk Press.
