Beautifully bound with brown morocco spine and corners, lettered in shiny gold over a handsome red leather spine label. There are six gilt-decorated raised bands on spine. Sharp corners. Hinges are perfect. All edges are red speckled. Pages are creamy white, clean, crisp and unmarked. NO foxing. 4.5" wide by 6.25" tall. In 1996, Broadfoot CIVIL WAR BOOKS, A PRICED CHECKLIST valued the First London Edition at $500.00, and First American Edition at $400.00. But Broadfoot didn't mention this First Continental Edition, which was issued the same year as the American. NOT a library discard. NO owner's name or bookplate. Autobiography of Admiral Hobart Pasha (Augustus Charles Hobart-Hampden, 1822-1886) a British Royal Navy officer, and winner of the Victoria Cross.
