London: How and Parsons. Very Good. 1842. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover leather binding. First Edition. Marbled paper covered boards with brown leather corners and spine. Some scuffing, signs of use and rubbing to corners. Banded spine, gilt title and gilt embellishments to panels. All edge marbled but faded. Attractive marbled endpapers, cracked to hinge but reasonably sound. Neat armorial bookplate. Plain preliminary page. Front end paper is missing. Frontispiece is a lovely wood engraving of Lilly O'Brien - some light damp staining at extreme edges but otherwise very good. Title page is embellished with engravings from daily life which is used to emphasise the title, after a dedication to 'Thomas Boyse, Esq, of the Grange Bannow'. Contents and List of Illustrations, 380 pages after which in a smaller print the book ends with 'Ireland its Scenery, Characters etc etc, 381-384'. The book is illustrated with a range of engravings throughout and five full page plates including the frontispiece. The illustrations are of Irish girls, each one is full of style and personality. Fascinating for enthusiasts of Irish history. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 380 pages .
