Sobre este item
New York: Viking, 1951. 175pp. Book clean and unmarked, with tight binding, straight spine and square corners. Dust jacket shows toning to spine and mild wear to extremities but is intact, not price clipped. Envelope tipped in to front free endpaper. Four laid-in letters. The first is from April 27, 1937, from Republican politician Stanley M. Isaacs to McGinley. Isaacs praises McGinley's light verse. The following year, Isaacs became Manhattan Borough President, a position he held until 1941. McGinley's reply from April 29 of 1937 thanks Isaacs and updates him on news of her light verse publications. Letter signed by McKinley. The third letter, from Isaacs to McGinley, is dated December 27, 1951. In it, Isaacs discusses suburbia and McGinley's work. The final letter is from February 11, 1952, from McGinley to Isaacs. Unlike the other three, this is a handwritten note on a name card (Mrs. Charles Hayden - McGinley had married Hayden by that time). She acknowledges the complexities around suburbia and says, "I have fallen in love with our village." A lovely, brief correspondence between McGinley and a significant longtime reader. . Signed By Author. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Illus. by Roberta McDonald. 8vo.
