An ex-library copy of the second published novel by Charlotte Brontë. "Shirley," which followed her "Jane Eyre," first appeared in 1849 under her Currer Bell pseudonym. The story is set in Yorkshire amidst labor unrest in the textile industry following the Napoleonic Wars. With an introduction by Margaret Lane. Entry 288 in Everyman's Library fiction series. --- In EL larger format binding style 4. Full green cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and gilt interlocked "EL" in script at tail of spine. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- A Fair-only copy, with considerable evidence of former ownership by a lending library: rubberstampings (including de-accession stamps), tears, sticker, tape removal traces, and general wear including crayon marks to last few leaves, but remaining tightly-bound and fully readable.; Ex-Library; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xiv, 511 pages .
