Sobre este item

New York, NY: Sun Dial Press. Good+ in Good dust jacket. 1937. Reprint. Hardcover. Good+ in Fair DJ. The Book shows moderate shelving wear along bottom edge of boards; lighter wear to the upper extremities; the text pages tanned slightly due to aging; a former owner short note in pencil at the front free endpaper; the binding leans but remains secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. A good reading copy, showing moderate wear and some minor cosmetic flaws. The DJ shows heavy wear to the outside edge of the front panel and a 1" chip at the head of the backstrip; overall rubbing to the panels and sunning has obscured the titles at the backstrip; mylar-protected. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8 X 5.75 X 1.35 inches). 301 pages. Sparsely Illustrated with duotone designs. Language: English. Weight: 17.8 ounces. Black cloth over boards with red titles and designs at the backstrip. Tinted top edge. This Edition 1937; Copyright 1929. Hardback with DJ. Howard Pease's sea yarn about teenager's who "run away to the sea" is an authentic and highly engaging tale. Pease, although pitching his tales at the readership of the Hardy Boys series, has really lived the life of his young heroes and his books are accordingly authentic accounts of the tough world of tramp steamers and their crews in their golden era---1920-1940. While they undoubtedly appeal to the 12-16 year-old males who are their intended audience, and surely some females as well, they are certainly not dumbbed-down to patronize what so many authors of "juvenile"-themed books think young people would like. Readers of any age can find much information about the hardships and adventures of tramp steaming when tramp freighters still held the mystique of exotic ports, rogue captains, and quixotic crews and provide a natural setting for engaging stories of intrigue and skulduggery. ; Young Moderns Bookshelf; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 301 pages; NPS .
