Sobre este item

London: Tinsley Brothers, 1868. First edition. Cloth. Good. 7" by 5". None. A smart first edition of this collection of short stories and verses from a variety of writers. First edition. Illustrated with frontispiece, title page, and thirty plates. Collated complete. The Savage Club was a gentleman's club in London, founded in 1857, named after the poet Richard Savage. Members were drawn from fields of art, literature, law, music, science, and drama. They often arranged to publish collections of work. This collection includes short fiction and verses from writers such as: Walter Thornbury, Edward Draper, Clement W. Scott, W. S. Gilbert, Henry S. Leigh, C. W. Quinn, and many others. With illustrators such as: the Dalziel Brothers, R. Knight, H. Orrin Smith, J. Swain, H. Grenaway, W. Thomas, and many more. Edited by Andrew Halliday, a Scottish journalist and dramatist. Previously held in the library of Henry Spencer Ashby, a British book collector, bibliographer, and writer notable for his clandestine three-volume bibliography of erotic literature published under the pseudonym of Pisanus Fraxi. Bound in full deep blue cloth. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Minor loss to the head of the spine and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. A withdrawal stamp to the book plate. Contemporary ink notes to the front pastedown. Good
