San Francisco: A. M. Robertson, 1921. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Custom Clear Mylar. 119 pages. SIGNED/INSCRIBED in ink twice by George Sterling. The inscription on a front free endpaper is: "Dear Jack: Here's one more book - and I don't promise to quit even now! / Ever your friend, George / Dec. 8th, 1921". on a page opposite the title page is written in ink: "For J. J. Newbegin, Jr., from George Sterling" John J. (Jack) Newbegin Jr. was the son of a well-known San Francisco bookseller. J. J. Newbegin. Newbegin Jr. took over his father's business, becoming well-known in the trade. Two bookplates are affixed to the front pastedown. The smaller of the two is that of L.H. Kaufman. The larger bookplate is that of bibliophile Willard S. Morse of New York. Tipped in at the rear pastedown is Mr. Morse's collection slip. Green cloth. 5 3/4" x 8 1/4". A collection of poems including, "Spring in Carmel", To A Girl Dancing" and "The Passing of Bierce". Poet/Playwright George Sterling (1869-1926) was a resident member of early Carmel's bohemian colony and a friend of Jack London, Mary Austin and Robinson Jeffers. His later years were spent in San Francisco, where he died by his own hand in 1926. A San Francisco book trade association copy. Mattila A25.
