Sobre este item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Thomas Y. Crowell Company, 1930. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Willy Pogany. 172 pp., The First and Fourth. Renderings in English Verse by Edward FitzGerald. Illustrations by Willy Pogany. New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Company. Publication date - 1930. About this Work: When Edward Fitzgerald translated these 11th Century Persian Poems in 1859, they became something of a sensation after one admiring reader passed them on to his friends--a circle that included Browning, Rosetti and Tennyson. Omar Khayyam was famous in his own day as a mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher, and although his mathematical studies were once hugely influential in the West, he is known to much of the world today as a poet, and his Rubaiyat as the Chief exemplar of the Arabic verse form "roba'i," a poem composed in quatrains in which the first, second and fourth lines rhyme. Description: 'RARE' Fine leather binding with gold embossed /engraved title / design on spine edge and front board, beautiful numerous color plates and black/white engraving on pages as seen in image, gilt gold top leaf edge. Dimensions: 6 1/2" x 9" x 1". Condition: Very Good; tight spine, 3 3/4" surface break in fine tan leather binding at upper front board hinge (surface only, hardcover securely attached), 2 1/2" surface break in fine leather binding at upper rear board hinge (surface only, hardcover securely attached), varied surface coloration, light scratches, spine crown/heel lightly bumped/rubbed, upper corners tips finely chipped. This book is a very nice strong & tight book; minor frailty at outermost perimeter of book as described.
