Sobre este item

Harber & Brothers, Publishers, 1876. First Edition. Hardcover. 118 pages. Illustrations by Thomas Nast. An economic parable, illustrated by the great political cartoonist of the day, advocating a 'free silver' monetary policy. At the time, the US was on the gold standard, whcih meant that anyone could trade gold metal for gold coinage (a 'free gold' exchange policy). Free silver advocated the same for silver, even though the value of silver coins was greater than the value of silver bullion. For example, say a quarter contained 15 cents worth of silver, a free silver policy would have allowed Americans to take 15 cents of silver and turn it into 25 cents worth of money, thereby expanding the money supply. First edition (first printing). A very good copy with no dust jacket. Green cloth with blindstamp on cover. Gilt lettering and decorative border on spine. Wear to edges and minor scuffs. Former owner's bookplates on front pastdown. Former owner's news clippings about (and cartoons by) Thomas Nast glued to front free endpaper, and to publisher's ads on rear pages following last numbered page.
