Portrait of the De Goncourt brothers, Edmund and Jules, and an introduction to their work is included. Frontis and Other Portraits with Descriptive Notes by Octave Uzanne. Frontis tissue protected. Black cloth binding with blind stamped double border on front, two gilt outlined panels on spine with gilt lettering within-quite bright and clear. Fleur de lys in black to spine. Quite clean with light wear to corners and spine head and heel, hinge rubbed. Solid and tight sewn binding. Former owner name to back of frontis. Lime-green decorated title page. Inner hinge cracked Pages clean and unmarked, no tears, very slight toning. The de Goncourt brothers, artists and writers, (Edmund, 1822-1896 and Jules, 1830-1970), lived and wrote together collaboratively for over twenty-two years in a way unique to literary history. They lived and wrote about one of the most lively and glamorous eras of Parisian life.
