Selected by Charles Morgan from his series 'Menander's Mirror', which the author contributed weekly to The Times Literary Supplement, a selection illustrative of the variety of topics and themes over artistic and social subjects.A second series appeared in 1946. Including essays on authors such as Thomas Hardy, Emily Bronte, Ivan Turgenev, and topics including on being a prisoner, on being born now, and on Nausicaa and the pelicans among many others.Complete with its unclipped dust wrapper, uncommon particularly in such lovely condition. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely, only minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. The dust wrapper is unclipped and excellent with minor shelf wear only, a touch of sunning to the spine and light minor spotting to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
