While making his way through the vast marshes of the Vosk Delta, Tarl fall s prey to the rencers and is enslaved by Telima, a rencer girl. He eventually escapes during a raid by slavers from Port Kar, and makes his way with Telima and some other former slaves, to that squallid city on the shores of Thassa. Having broken hi s warrior's codes of h onour in the marshes, Tarl takes the slave name Bosk, given to him by Telima, and begins to forge a place for himself amongst the pirates and slavers of Port Kar.
