A fine 16th-century edition of Ovid's best work 'Metamorphoses'. 'Metamorphoses' is one of the most famous works of Greek and Roman mythology and history of the 1st-century. It is known to have inspired the works of Dante, Boccaccio, Chaucer, and even Shakespeare as well as works of visual art and music. This epic poem recounts the history of the world from creation to the death of Julius Caesar.
This rare volume is from the 1661 complete works of Ovid, published in 1661 Lyon by Petri Leffen, translated by Cornelius Schrevel. It should be noted that this work contains impressive, full-page illustrations.
