Sobre este item

M. Carey and Sons, Philadelphia: ., 1821 48 p. Foxed. Deckle edges. 160 mm. Original printed paper covered boards, darkened. Rear board dampstained. Spine perished. Hardbound. Good. First American edition, published almost simultaneously as the British first, 'The Prophecy of Dante' was written at Ravenna, June, 1819, 'to gratify' the Countess Guiccioli, who believed herself 'at the point of death.' Byron was experiencing heightened interest in Italian literature and Italian politics, which lent zest to this labour of love, and, time and place conspiring, he composed 'the best thing he ever wrote' (Letter to Murray, March 23, 1820). S&S/AI 4895. PAIMP 25. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Good.
