Sobre este item

This First Edition copy of The Proceedings of the Bunker Hill Monument Association at the Annual Meeting, June 18, 1888. With the annual address of Hon. Charles Devens, President of the Association was published in Boston by the Association in 1888. The document is approximately 6 x 9 1/4 inches and contains 48 pages (with gilt top edges) in paper covers.. A photograph of the monument is used as a frontispiece. An appendix is included which quotes a letter written by a British participant in the Battle of Bunker Hill. Although the authenticity of the letter could not be verified, it is considered to be a scrap of contemporary history from a British source worthy of preservation.

The booklet's pages are slightly tanned, but the text is clear and easily read. The covers show some signs of wear, particularly at the spine and in mild dirt on the faces. The title page is detached. The document is otherwise in very good condition.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the front cover, the title page, the first page of the Address of Charles Devens, and the first page of the Appendix, which deals with a British description of the Bunker Hill battle.

The Bunker Hill Monument Association was incorporated in 1823 for the purpose of purchasing the battlegrounds of June 17, 1775 and constructing on the site a suitable memorial. The Bunker Hill Monument Association maintained the monument and grounds until 1919 when it was turned over to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 1976 the Bunker Hill Monument was transferred to the National Park Service and became a unit of Boston National Historical Park.)
