Sobre este item
London: Uriel, Brooke, Whieldon, and Flexney. Full leather. Volume the First. cxxiii, 385 pp. + table of contents. Slight chipping at head and foot of spine, some separation along spine edges (still very tight), "1783" written in ink at foot of spine, signed by John C. Wynkoop (name and date crossed out but date seems to be 1785), David Knapp (1799), Stephen Eno (Feb. 6 1817), and Jonathan Holdeen (S 17 1936), slight foxing, Good. Wynkoop may be the John C. who lived in Kinderhood and Kingston, N.Y. from 1761-1796. David Knapp may have been the member of the New York state assembly from Putnam County. Stephen Eno practiced law in Pine Plains, N.Y. and was a prominent lawyer in Duchess County. Jonathan Holdeen (1881-1967), who resided in Pine Plains and had an office in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was the eccentric, penny-pinching, millionaire lawyer who set up 2.8 million dollars in trusts to make Pennsylvania a tax-free state (an idea inspired by Benjamin Franklin). An extraordinary legal clash followed in which the Unitarian Universalists were involved. Google Holdeen, and read about this fascinating scheme and legal battle. Interesting provenance. . Good. Full Leather. Second Edition. 1783.
