One of his most important works was "Polymetis" – a collection of full-page engravings of ancient Greek and Roman art paired with dialogues over the works of art themselves. Each of the dialogues and engravings describe:

· the rise and fall of Roman art

· the influence of Greco-Roman style on 'modern' artists
