Sobre este item
This is an "elegantly illustrated" Civil War-era copy of "The Poetical Works of CHARLES LAMB." 1865; E.H. Butler & Co.; Philadelphia. Nicely decorated covers and spine. Gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. This edition features a frontispiece portrait of Lamb, an illustrated title page, and three other full-page engraved plates. This copy was presented as a "2nd English Prize, 4th Class" presumably from a teacher to a student. The contents are grouped into the following categories - Miscellaneous; Sonnets; Blank Verse; Album Verses; Commendatory Verses; Translations.
Condition:
Clean front cover and spine with bright gilt; small, barely visible stain on the back cover. Cloth tears at the cover corners, and at the top and bottom edges of the spine. The text pages are in nice condition - mostly clean with only a few random, light foxing spots and smudges here and there. There is a crack at the front of the book between pages 12 & 13 resulting in the front cover being shaky. Light soiling to the end papers. There is an old prize inscription written in pen on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Good- condition.
