Francis & Co., 1860. 12mo. Vol. 1: xvii,[5],[23]-396,[2]pp plus 10pp publisher's ads. Vol. 2: vi,[2],[17]-434pp, no ads. Original brown cloth, yellow endpapers, boards stamped in blind, spine letters gilt. Overall in very good condition; both volumes slightly cocked, Vol. 2 has hidden repair to brief tear at head of spine, lower right cover on front cover bumped exposing small portion of board underneath, both spine heads frayed, foot slightly worn; interiors very good, minor spotting to v.2. Two early female signatures on each front pastedown dated 1861 and 1887. H. T. Tuckerman provides a 9-page discussion of Browning's poetry. A 1-page note by Browning dated 1856 states "This edition" includes her earlier and later writing and some poems she would not have included, asking the reader to focus instead on the progress she has made in her later work. Early American edition published during Browning's life time.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
